Ummmmm....... got any fun weekend plans? Do they involve using NB 405 or 520? Well, gulp, better reroute, cause they'll both be closed this weekend!! Cue the gasps, the shock and the cuss words, but don't panic. With some planning we should all be able to get through this little closure unscathed! Rejoice friends, we will be ok!
First things first- the details: Northbound 405 will be closed between S.E. 8th Street and SR 520 from 10 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 4 a.m. Monday, July 15. The I-90 ramps to NB 405 will also be closed. 520 will ALSO be closed in both directions from 405 to Montlake from 11 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15.
Next up; the solution: I-5 is an obvious alternate route, as are the surface streets through Bellevue (like 148th), but expect those to be a bit of a mess all weekend. The DOT also expects I5 through Seattle to be quite busy, as they're encouraging people to #Take5 instead of side-streets through Bellevue. If you need to get from Seattle to somewhere near Bothell/Woodinville or Kirkland, Lake City Way/SR 522 is another possibility as it won't take you as far north as I-5 to 405.
On top of that, we have a closure on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge this weekend, too. The westbound lanes of the Tacoma Narrows bridge will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 4 a.m. Monday, July 15. But have no fear, westbound drivers! You'll be re-routed to the eastbound bridge. So, there will be 2-lanes headed in either direction with a reduced speed limit of 35 mph. Not terrible, but will definitely make things slower through the area.
You can also sign up to follow WSDOT on Twitter, they will be using #Take5 to update drivers on alternate routes and conditions! regarding 520/405 closures! And don't forget to follow the Traffic Divas if you haven't already!
As we said, with a little planning, this will be a slight inconvenience at worst.
Good luck friends!!
